UU the VOTE Wisconsin News

Hello friends!

What a weekend. It’s an all hands on deck moment – from the streets and our neighborhoods to online actions and canvasses – and we need you to join us as we support folks registering and voting safely in one of the most critical elections of our lives. Last week, nearly 150 UUs showed up to our phonebank with New Florida Majority. Together, we made over 10,000 calls and had over 500 conversations with Florida voters. We NEED to do this again in Wisconsin this Wednesday!

As we move towards the final countdown in Wisconsin, please join us — and invite your congregation — to plug into our UU the Vote work now through the Election. This Wednesday, September 2nd from 6:00-8:00pm CT, we’ll launch our first Wisconsin national phonebank with the Wisconsin UU State Advocacy Network (WUUSAN). Join us to combat voter suppression, increase turn out and ensure voters have what they need to vote safely this Fall. The phonebank will include a short training on ThruTalk – the phone dialer we will be using, which anonymizes your phone number as you call potential voters. Please bring a phone and a computer and RSVP to phonebank. Want to get ahead of the game? Check out the script we’ll be using.

THIS Wednesday, September 2nd from 6:00-8:00pm CT

As state elected officials refuse to gather for the Governor’s special legislative session in Madison to address police reform – and as national leaders gather in Kenosha tomorrow – we know this moment will be used in service of militarism, policing and “law and order” carceral solutions that criminalize Black, Brown and Indigenous communities. We need all of us to combat this violent escalation.

If you’re able to give a donation, give or share Jacob Blake’s GoFundMe (my apologies for a previously incorrect link): this fund will help with legal costs, medical bills, and support for his children and the Milwaukee Freedom Fund: A Black and Brown-led organization assisting protesters in Kenosha with bail and legal support. And if you are a Milwaukee resident, add your name on a letter to City Attorney Spencer dropping all charges against protestors. Looking forward to being on the line with many of you this week.

In care and solidarity,
