“May I be filled with happiness and know the root of happiness.
May you be free of suffering and know the root of suffering.
May they be filled with joy at another’s happiness.
May all beings live in peace, free from desire and aversion.”
In the fourth and final session on The Four Immeasurables, Vanessa Zuisei Goddard will talk about riding the waves of life with equanimity (upekka) by cultivating a state of mind that is free of desire or aversion; greed or hatred. In addition, she will give her perspectives on what it means for Buddhists to say that they take refuge in the “Three Treasures” of the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha.
Zuisei Goddard is a Zen teacher and writer, and the guiding teacher for the Ocean Mind Sangha. She currently lives in southern Mexico. For 23 years, she lived at the Zen Mountain Monastery in upstate New York, 14 of those years as a monastic.
Our program will begin with a brief centering and introductions followed by the talk, discussion, and a longer silent meditation. All are welcome. Terry Dixon will facilitate.
