What the team does
The team supports congregants in navigating difficult conversations, addressing concerns, and strengthening relationships within our community. Its members also model covenantal practice, offer training, and help all of us remember that returning to right relations is part of spiritual growth.
A covenant we wrote together
The team grew out of MLUC’s Right Relations Covenant, which the congregation approved at the Annual Congregational Meeting on Sunday, June 14, 2026. The covenant took shape over more than a year of listening sessions, drafting, and feedback. That process began with Rev. John Morehouse’s kickoff sermon on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025, and continued through Appreciative Inquiry sessions with committees and groups, all-congregation meetings, and a feedback period last spring. After the vote, the Board formed the Right Relations Team to help us live into the covenant, and the congregation commissioned its members on Sunday, Oct. 18.
The covenant isn’t a rulebook. It’s a shared aspiration for how we treat one another, and a reminder of how to find our way back to love and respect when we fall short. Its final promise speaks directly to hard moments: Together we covenant to acknowledge our disagreements, to speak honestly, to listen deeply, and to commit to the work of building right relations.
