Lecture: Composing the Cosmos
Music Director David Brown offers an inside look at Observatory, the original oratorio premiering on Music Sunday, on June 7. Weaving together Brown’s original music, the poetry of Cameron Martin, and astrophotography by Dave Hockenberry, Observatory is a rare collaborative work that reaches toward the infinite.
In this talk, David walks through his compositional process, shares excerpts from rehearsals, and demonstrates at the piano—offering a window into how sound, word, and image come together to explore the cosmos. He’ll also read Martin’s lyrical poetry and show Hockenberry’s stunning astronomical images.

Lecture Lunches are held on the second Wednesday each month from September through June. They feature a guest speaker drawn from the church or outside community. There is a $10 charge to cover food costs. A vegetarian option is available.
