The Main Line Unitarian Church is proud to have joined the New Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia in our commitment to immigrant justice. We believe in creating a more just and compassionate world where all people are treated with dignity and respect.
Understanding Immigrant Justice
The New Sanctuary Movement offers a profound perspective on immigrant justice. This is not about fixing a “broken” system, but recognizing how the current immigration system has been intentionally designed to maintain inequitable power structures. At its core, immigrant justice is about:
- Confronting systemic racism and white supremacy embedded in current immigration policies
- Affirming the full humanity of all people, regardless of national origin
- Building community power and solidarity across diverse backgrounds
- Creating pathways for individuals and families to live safely and thrive
Our Commitment
We are in the early stages of deepening our engagement with the New Sanctuary Movement. In the coming months, we will be sharing more information about:
- Specific ways our congregation can support immigrant communities
- Educational opportunities to learn about immigration justice
- Potential ways to get involved with local organizing efforts
Stay tuned for more details about how we can work together to create meaningful change.
