Observatory: Opening Reception & Conversation with the Creators
Saturday, June 6 at 6:00 PM — 9:00 PM

The evening before its world premiere, come experience Observatory in a new dimension.
Observatory is an original oratorio by Music Director David Brown, premiering at Main Line Unitarian Church’s annual Music Sunday service on June 7. A large-scale work for choir, vocal soloists, and full orchestra, it brings together Brown’s music, poetry by Cameron Martin, and deep-space astrophotography by Dave Hockenberry — a collaborative work that reaches beyond the walls of the sanctuary toward stars, deep time, and the questions we ask when we look up.
The multimedia exhibit at the Fireside Gallery — running May 15 through July 12 — brings that collaboration into visual form, featuring Hockenberry’s photographs of nebulae and star clusters, Martin’s poetry, paintings, photographs, and collages by the MLUC Art Group, NASA posters, and contributions by Yassara Antar.
At 8:00 p.m., Brown, Martin, and Hockenberry gather in the Main Meeting Room to talk about the creative process — how photographs of deep space became poems, and how those poems became an oratorio.
