Spring has arrived, making it the perfect moment for a deep spring cleaning. Across many cultures and spiritual traditions, spring—or the new year—is honored with rituals of cleansing to sweep away the old and welcome renewal. These practices set the stage for new intentions and help clear away stagnant energy or unwanted spirits. Here is an inviting ritual to refresh and bless your home this season.

  • Play your favorite music and sing while you clean—the songs that fill you with joy, glee, and delight.
  • Open your windows to let the old energy flow out and invite fresh air and new energy in.
  • Sweep and vacuum your home thoroughly, clearing away dust and stagnant energy.
  • Mop your floors with rosewater. The gentle scent fosters a sense of love and harmony throughout your home.
  • Sprinkle rosemary in the corners of each room to promote clarity and bring a refreshing aroma.
  • Clean your windows with vinegar or glass cleaner, letting sunlight pour in and brighten your space.
  • Burn sage or incense, or simmer a pot of orange peels, lemon peels, and cinnamon on the stove to fill your home with a fresh, uplifting scent.
  • Express gratitude to your home: Thank you for sheltering me, protecting me, and giving me a place to rest and renew.
  • Sprinkle salt around the perimeter of your home (if able) as an act of protection.
