A Floating Sphere, Jaws, and The Wizard of Oz: Behind the Scenes of the Academy Museum
Join us for an engaging behind-the-scenes look at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles with Barbara Turman. Barbara will explore the museum’s striking architecture, introduce us to “Bruce” the shark from Jaws, and share stories from the making of The Wizard of Oz (1939)—along with a few surprises from one of the world’s newest and most innovative film museums.
About Barbara Turman
Barbara Turman has led a wide-ranging and distinctive career. She worked in accounting for Rob Reiner’s production company, Castle Rock Entertainment, both at the corporate level and on the films Misery (1990) and City Slickers (1991). She later focused on philanthropic fundraising for educational institutions including Cornell University, St. Albans School, and Rutgers University.
More recently, Barbara worked in nonprofit fundraising for The Planetary Society—founded by Carl Sagan and led by CEO Bill Nye, the Science Guy—as well as for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.
Now back in the Philadelphia area, where she grew up, Barbara is enjoying life as a new grandparent while reconnecting with her creative roots.
