Each week at MLUC, two Sunday morning meditation groups gather to practice together, reflect, and support one another. To offer a closer look at what newcomers can expect—and what makes these sessions meaningful for the community—Katrina Ogilby, one of the longtime leaders, shared the following reflection.
“MLUC’s two regular Sunday meditations are friendly, open and welcoming to all: new and experienced meditators, church members, and guests.
“Meditation I (at 8:30 a.m.) includes a short centering meditation, introductions, a contemplative prompt—such as a quote, poem or brief dharma talk—followed by a community discussion where all voices are heard, a 15–20-minute meditation, and a closing. Meditation II (at 11:30 a.m.) is a shortened version that includes check-in, contemplative prompt and meditation.
I love MLUC’s Meditation I program! It has broadened my learning, helped me to grow in a safe and supportive community of other spiritual seekers, and introduced me to new friends who help keep me accountable to my meditation practice. I couldn’t have sustained my practice for these last 15 years without this wonderful group!
In the words of Carol, another community member: “This group has been so valuable to me personally and for my meditation practice. I am grateful to know each one of you. This group keeps me honest about wanting to meditate. I have a full-time job, have various family commitments, and my schedule always feels full. Meditation reminds me what is important in life. This group has introduced me to different thought leaders in the meditation community and so many good resources. That is one of its strengths.”
We welcome newcomers—those looking for a community of meditators who care and support each other, and share in a desire to learn and grow. Please join us by just showing up on line or in person any Sunday morning. We look forward to meeting you!
With love,
Katrina Ogilby and the MLUC meditation community
