We are delighted to launch the fall season at MLUC with copious music! Whoever you are, and whatever your ability level, the MLUC music program welcomes you to join us in the way that is most fulfilling for you.

The MLUC Choir begins our new season at our rehearsal tonight (Thursday, Sept. 4) at 7 p.m. in the Main Meeting Room. We are learning accessible but meaningful music for our ingathering service this Sunday, Sept. 7. Whether you’re an experienced chorister, or have never sung before in your life (you do not need to be able to read music), we welcome you to join us as soon as you are ready! Our rehearsals will continue on this schedule, every Thursday night throughout the year, and you may join us at any time with no requirement that you have been with us from the beginning of the season. We are especially delighted to announce that childcare will be available during our rehearsals! Friends and family currently outside of the MLUC community are equally welcome.

The Bell Choir will ring its inaugural service of 2025 the following Sunday, Sept. 14 with a single rehearsal the day before, Saturday, Sept. 13 from 2 to 4 in the afternoon. If you’ve not played handbells before, you are in for a treat! It is a great deal of fun—but don’t take my word for it! No experience is required, but some music-reading skills are strongly encouraged. Please reach out to me if you would like to join so that I can prepare a part for you.

The illumine Concert Series begins its new and improved 30-concert (for real!) program this year with some of the most profound and exciting music I know. This Saturday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Main Meeting Room, pianist Aaron Hungerford—an exceptional former student of Vincent Craig’s—and I will perform works for violin and piano by Ernest Bloch, Lili Boulanger, Johannes Brahms, and Germaine Tailleferre. As always, our program is casual, brief, discussion-based, and tailored to the classical music aficionado and skeptic alike. There is no fee for admission, but a freewill donation to support our guest artist is recommended. You can find more information here.

I look forward to a beautiful, transformative year of music together!
