As we begin the month of March, I am reflecting on how much uncertainty and exhaustion we are all living with. Many of us worry that there seems to be no end to the cruelty and malfeasance by our federal government in this time of rising fascism.

This Sunday, I want to take a step back and look at the really big picture: What is our place in the cosmos and how can we meet the unknown in a curious and empowering way? I will be delving into such mystics as Julian of Norwich, the English Catholic anchoress who, in the 14th century, took a brave step into the unknown of her world beset by plagues, feudalism, and crushing patriarchy.

This is also the beginning of our Annual Stewardship Campaign (Pledge Drive) wherein we will be asked to step bravely into a vision of love and light. Our campaign is titled “Love Rising Up” as we realize that only persistent and brave love for our neighbors and our world will ultimately save us.

I leave you with these words from Julian of Norwich: “All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.” Or as Sonny Kapoor, played by Dev Patel, said in the 2011 film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel: “Everything will be all right in the end… if it’s not all right then it’s not yet the end.”
