Last Sunday, MLUC’s new Social Justice Team met for the first time, with more than 50 people in attendance. People spoke about shared priorities, learning from experienced partner organizations, and the need to respond quickly when harm is happening in our communities. That work will continue as the team shapes how decisions are made and which issues MLUC will take on together.

The Social Justice Team’s first two actions are a protest this Saturday focused on ICE detention centers and a voter-engagement effort tied to the 2026 election cycle. See below for details.

Next Justice Team Meeting

Come learn more about the team’s direction, help shape future actions, and connect with others interested in MLUC’s justice work.

Our First Social Justice Action: Citizens Bank Protest

Citizens Bank is currently the leading financial backer of two companies that operate most ICE detention centers in the U.S. These facilities have documented records of abuse and neglect. Public pressure has worked before: sustained protests have led major banks to withdraw from this industry.

WHAT: Protest of Citizens Bank’s funding of private detention companies
WHEN: Saturday, Feb. 7, 10–11 a.m.
WHERE: Citizens Bank Branch, 733 W. Lancaster Ave, Bryn Mawr
BRING: A sign if you wish; a yellow UU shirt if you have one.

Shape the Next Election: Help Candidates Get on the Ballot

In Pennsylvania, candidates must collect petition signatures to appear on the ballot. That process runs Feb. 17 to March 10, and it’s one of the earliest ways community members can shape who voters will be able to choose in 2026.

MLUC members can take part as individuals by helping circulate and sign petitions for candidates whose values align with their own. You can host a small signing gathering, go door-to-door, or attend a local signing event in your area.

To get started, the Justice Team will offer a petition training:
Sunday, February 15 at 11:30 a.m.
Downstairs Rec Room
No experience needed.
