Dear friends,
This week’s United States Supreme Court ruling allowing states to ban gender-affirming care for transgender youth threatens lives and causes real, lasting harm.
Rev. Dr. Sofía Betancourt, President of the Unitarian Universalist Association, responded with these words: “As a part of our faith tradition, Unitarian Universalists embrace transgender, nonbinary, intersex, and gender diverse people. This is a central expression of our faith. . . . We send our love and care to all the trans youth and their families who are directly affected by this ruling—we will keep fighting for you.”
We can’t say it better, however, we also want you to know that “we” is us. Your MLUC staff and leadership loves those of you who are trans, those of you who are parenting or grandparenting trans youth, all of you who love someone who is trans, nonbinary, intersex, or gender diverse. We care about what happens to you and your loved ones. If you need someone to talk to or a place to be, we are here. Please reach out. If you need practical support, our Congregational Care team or the Minister’s Discretionary Fund may be able to help. If you are activated by this news and want to do something to help, we can get you connected with groups inside and outside the congregation who are already working to support queer adults, youth, kids, and families.
In gentle anger with you,
Rev. John Morehouse, Senior Minister
Dawn Star Sarahs-Borchelt, Director of Learning & Family Ministries
