SUMMARY:Writing the Sacred Journey Workshop
DESCRIPTION:and \n\n\n\nSaturday\, November 1 at 10:00 AM — 12:00 PM \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLed by Rick McKnight\, PhD \n\n\n\nYour life holds a sacred story—are you ready to explore it? \n\n\n\nIn this two-session course\, you’ll reflect on the path that has shaped your deepest beliefs\, values\, and sense of purpose. Through guided prompts (which you may use or ignore)\, you’ll consider the most basic spiritual questions: \n\n\n\n\nWho am I?\n\n\n\nWhy am I here?\n\n\n\nHow can I embody what is sacred in my daily life?\n\n\n\nIn what do I place my faith?\n\n\n\n\nEach gathering begins with a centering practice\, followed by an hour of independent writing. We then reconvene—sharing only if you wish—in a supportive\, respectful space. The focus is not on polished prose but on self-discovery and spiritual insight. You may write in any form—prose\, poetry\, even drama. We will draw inspiration from “Writing the Sacred Journey: The Art and Practice of Spiritual Memoir” by Elizabeth J. Andrew. Reading the book is optional\, but may enrich your experience.

SUMMARY:Housing Justice Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Following our service on Sunday\, Sept. 14\, join us for a conversation about MLUC’s expanded Housing Justice work. Together\, we’ll explore the realities of housing insecurity in Montgomery County—where rising rents and stagnant wages are putting homes out of reach for many working families—and how our congregation can respond. \n\n\n\nThis discussion will feature reflections from our Housing Justice Team\, guest speaker Mark Boorse of Access Services\, and insights drawn from books including Evicted\, There Is No Place for Us\, Rough Sleepers\, and They Just Need to Get a Job. \n\n\n\nTogether we’ll explore: \n\n\n\n\nWhy “home” is more than shelter—it’s dignity\, safety\, and belonging\n\n\n\nHow rising rents\, stagnant wages\, and lack of affordable housing fuel homelessness and insecurity\n\n\n\nRelief and support strategies already making a difference in Montgomery County\n\n\n\nPractical ways our congregation can engage in advocacy\, support\, and sustained justice work\n\n\n\n\nThis is the kickoff of an ongoing series. Everyone is welcome—whether seeking to learn\, share\, or take action.

SUMMARY:Film & Talk: "Color - Light - Spirit: Studio Sam Feinstein"
DESCRIPTION:McGinness RoomJoin The Art Group (TAG) for the inaugural event of our quarterly “Film & Talk” program. Experience the vibrant world of the abstract painter Sam Feinstein through this compelling 40-minute documentary that reveals his artistic philosophy\, dynamic teaching methods\, and life-affirming approach to creativity. \n\n\n\nBy 1960\, Sam Feinstein had established himself as an accomplished abstract painter\, art educator\, and critic before rejecting the commercial art world to pursue his art without the constraints of marketing. For nearly 50 years\, he painted steadily while sharing his passion through small private classes\, inviting students to see in transformative ways. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSpecial guest Patricia Stark Feinstein\, Sam’s widow and curator of the Samuel L. Feinstein Trust\, will present the film and engage in conversation with attendees afterward. She offers rich biographical insights into Sam’s personal and professional journey. \n\n\n\n“We don’t paint flowers\,” Sam would say\, “we paint flowering.” Discover how Sam came to see art creation as a necessary\, spiritual extension of nature’s own creative drive. \n\n\n\nAll are welcome\, including youth interested in creativity.
