DESCRIPTION:Philadelphia-area songwriters who have played at the famous Kerrville Folk Festival will come together in song to raise funds for the victims of the devastating floods in that Texas city this past July. The event will be hosted by renowned songwriter John Flynn\, who serves as emcee at the Philadelphia Folk Festival; and Aaron Nathans\, who co-hosts the monthly series Philly Songwriters in the Round. The artists also include Hope Dunbar\, Erik Balkey\, Letitia VanSant\, and Andrew Dunn. Donations will benefit the Kerr County Relief Fund of the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country.  \n\n\n\n\n\nHosted by MLUC.

Through guided prompts (which you may use or ignore)\, you’ll consider the most basic spiritual questions: \n\n\n\n\nWho am I?\n\n\n\nWhy am I here?\n\n\n\nHow can I embody what is sacred in my daily life?\n\n\n\nIn what do I place my faith?\n\n\n\n\nEach gathering begins with a centering practice\, followed by an hour of independent writing. We then reconvene—sharing only if you wish—in a supportive\, respectful space. The focus is not on polished prose but on self-discovery and spiritual insight. You may write in any form—prose\, poetry\, even drama. We will draw inspiration from “Writing the Sacred Journey: The Art and Practice of Spiritual Memoir” by Elizabeth J. Andrew. SUMMARY:Introduction to Playing the Native American Flute
DESCRIPTION:& \n\n\n\nSunday\, October 19 AT 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHave you ever wanted to play the Native American flute? In this fun\, hands-on workshop\, you’ll learn to create beautiful\, meditative music—even if you’ve never played an instrument before. \n\n\n\nOver the course of two\, two-hour Sunday classes\, you’ll gain the confidence to play the Native American scale and explore simple rhythms and ornamentations. \n\n\n\nThis two-part course meets Oct. 12 and 19; attendance at both is required. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat You’ll Learn\n\n\n\n\nHow to hold and play a Native American flute\n\n\n\nBasic fingering patterns\n\n\n\nBreath control techniques\n\n\n\nRhythms and ornamentation that bring your playing to life\n\n\n\n\nNo Experience Needed\n\n\n\nFlutes Provided (or Bring Your Own)\n\n\n\nA Native American flute in A minor is recommended. You may bring your own\, borrow from the instructor\, or purchase one from the instructor for $80. \n\n\n\nAbout the Instructor\n\n\n\nFrank Henninger is an accomplished Native American flute performer\, recording artist\, and a trained flute circle facilitator and instructor.
