SUMMARY:Monthly Mortality Musing
DESCRIPTION:Greeley Library \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMortality Musings offers a welcoming space to share thoughts and stories\, ask questions\, explore doubts and fears\, and engage with topics related to our mortality. These gatherings are open to anyone curious about the subject\, not just those facing end-of-life concerns. \n\n\n\nEach session will begin with a covenant\, a brief centering practice\, and a few moments of silence. Facilitator Sue Compton will offer a prompt to start the conversation\, which will then unfold organically. These evenings are intentionally unstructured so participants can shape the discussion together.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE FACILITATOR \n\n\n\nSue Compton is a lay chaplain at MLUC and a certified death doula. A caregiver by nature and by trade\, she raised four children and spent more than 20 years as a nanny caring for other families. She completed death doula training with Going with Grace in 2025 and holds proficiency certification through the National End-of-Life Doula Alliance. She volunteers with hospice locally. Being present for the deaths of both of her parents—two very different experiences—drew her to this work\, which she approaches with an open heart and genuine curiosity.

Every dollar of ticket sales goes directly to PALS. \n\n\n\nDave brings decades of songwriting\, several albums\, and phenomenal guitar work to the stage. For 17 years he toured with Al Stewart—of “Year of the Cat” and “Time Passages” fame—as Al’s lead guitarist and opening act. Liz Bligan has been singing all her life\, in choirs and as a soloist\, and has recorded with Dave and Al on three of Dave’s albums\, including one about to be released. \n\n\n\nPALS is a cat rescue and no-kill shelter that takes in some of the worst cases of abuse and injury and provides the veterinary care that saves their lives. SUMMARY:Healing After Loss: A Workshop for People Grieving or Anticipating the Loss of a Beloved Pet
DESCRIPTION:Led by Rabbi Robyn Frisch \n\n\n\nLunch is included \n\n\n\nThe bond we share with our pets is deep\, real\, and profoundly meaningful. Losing a pet can leave a giant hole in your life\, as well as in your heart – and many people feel alone in their grief. This workshop offers a warm\, safe and compassionate space for anyone who is navigating the loss of a pet (no matter how long ago or how recently)\, or anticipating that loss\, to process their grief by sharing memories\, expressing feelings\, and finding comfort among others who understand. \n\n\n\nThrough reflection\, discussion\, and simple rituals\, we’ll honor the bond you shared\, explore ways to live with your grief\, and consider how the love we have for our pets can remain a meaningful part of our lives even after they’re gone. \n\n\n\nParticipants are strongly encouraged to attend both sessions\, but if you can only make one session you’re still welcome to join us? You have this for registration\, I would like to see it continued on the website if you can. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSession 1 (Sunday\, Oct. 25): Honoring the Bond and Understanding Our Grief \n\n\n\nReflect on your pet’s life\, the love you shared\, and the grief that comes with losing – or anticipating the loss of – a beloved companion. \n\n\n\nThe goals of this session are to build trust and comfort among the group\, validate pet loss grief\, and recognize the depth and significance of the human-animal bond. Through guided conversation and reflection\, we’ll explore why the loss of a pet can be so profound\, the many different ways grief can affect us\, and the importance of recognizing that there is no “right” way to grieve and no set timeline for grief. We’ll also begin exploring what it means to live with grief rather than expecting ourselves simply to “get over” a loss. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSession 2 (Sunday\, Nov. 8): Living with Grief\, Continuing Bonds\, and Looking Ahead \n\n\n\nExplore ways to cope with grief\, remain connected to the pet you love\, and move forward while carrying that love with you. \n\n\n\nThe goals of this session are to explore healthy ways of living with grief\, identify sources of comfort and support\, and consider how we can continue our bond with a beloved pet even after death. We’ll discuss coping strategies and ways of caring for ourselves during grief\, as well as ways participants are already remembering and honoring their pets. We’ll explore additional possibilities for acts of remembrance to maintain those connections. Finally\, we’ll gently look ahead\, considering how grief can change and soften over time\, how painful memories can increasingly coexist with love and gratitude\, and how we might gradually open ourselves to joy\, connection\, and giving or receiving love again—while always carrying with us the bond we shared with our beloved pets. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Rabbi Robyn Frich \n\n\n\nRabbi Robyn Frisch is a certified Pet Loss Grief Counselor through PESI (Professional Education Systems\, Inc.) and has devoted much of her rabbinate to helping people navigate grief\, loss\, and life’s most meaningful transitions. Drawing on both professional training and personal experience (including the loss of her beloved dogs\, Bo and Stella) she creates compassionate\, supportive spaces where people can honor their grief\, share their stories\, and find comfort and healing. \n\n\n\nRabbi Robyn has served as the part-time rabbi of Temple Menorah Keneseth Chai in Northeast Philadelphia for more than 18 years. Additionally\, she privately officiates weddings\, funerals\, baby namings\, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs\, and other lifecycle events. She also serves as the Philadelphia Field Educator for JADE (the Jewish Association for Death Education)\, bringing educational programs on end-of-life traditions\, advance planning\, caregiving\, and grief to communities throughout Greater Philadelphia. \n\n\n\nBefore joining JADE\, Rabbi Robyn spent 12 years with 18Doors (formerly InterfaithFamily)\, first as Director of InterfaithFamily/Philadelphia and later as the founding Director of the Rukin Rabbinic Fellowship\, a national leadership program for rabbis serving interfaith families. \n\n\n\nA lifelong dog lover\, Rabbi Robyn is also the founder of Mazel Pups\, an online community celebrating the special bond between Jewish\, and Jew-ish\, dog lovers and their canine companions. She lives in Villanova with her husband\, Rabbi Seth Frisch – together they’re the parents and 3 human children 2 grandchildren – and Frankie\, their seven-year-old rescue dog.

DESCRIPTION:Haugtussa Reclaimed is a dramatized musical retelling of Arne Garborg’s Haugtussa\, a clairvoyant young woman’s coming-of-age story\, with Edvard Grieg’s song cycle of the same name at its center. Haugtussa Reclaimed expands the truncated narrative of Grieg’s 8-song cycle—piecing together Garborg’s larger\, more empowered tale by adding thematically relevant works by Grieg—and serves as an even fuller showcase of Grieg’s nationalistic Romanticism. In venturing beyond the love story that comprises the bulk of Grieg’s setting\, Haugtussa Reclaimed rounds out the protagonist’s full supernatural journey as depicted in its source material while also strengthening her agency\, and attempts to rebuild Grieg’s Haugtussa as it might have been: a more theatrical experience that grapples with themes of good and evil\, finding oneself\, and the choices we make along the way.
