SUMMARY:Monthly Mortality Musing
DESCRIPTION:McGinness Room \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMortality Musings offers a welcoming space to share thoughts and stories\, ask questions\, explore doubts and fears\, and engage with topics related to our mortality. These gatherings are open to anyone curious about the subject\, not just those facing end-of-life concerns. \n\n\n\nEach session will begin with a covenant\, a brief centering practice\, and a few moments of silence. The facilitator Sue Compton will offer a prompt to start the conversation\, which will then unfold organically. These evenings are intentionally unstructured so participants can shape the discussion together.  \n\n\n\nREGISTERRegistration is appreciated but not required. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE FACILITATOR \n\n\n\nSue Compton is a lay chaplain at MLUC and a certified death doula. A caregiver by nature and by trade\, she raised four children and spent more than 20 years as a nanny caring for other families. She completed death doula training with Going with Grace in 2025 and holds proficiency certification through the National End-of-Life Doula Alliance. She volunteers with hospice locally. Being present for the deaths of both of her parents—two very different experiences—drew her to this work\, which she approaches with an open heart and genuine curiosity. LEARN MORE | CONTACT SUE

SUMMARY:2026 MLUC Auction
DESCRIPTION:Down the rabbit hole we go! \n\n\n\nThis year the MLUC Auction tumbles into Wonderland—a curiouser and curiouser evening of mad hatters\, grinning cats\, and spirited bidding wars over treasures and experiences donated by our own community. Follow the White Rabbit\, raise a teacup to your neighbors\, and bid like the Queen of Hearts is watching. \n\n\n\nCostumes are encouraged\, and there’s a costume contest\, so dust off your top hat\, paint your roses red\, or come as a playing card. Nibble on hearty appetizers\, and visit the cash bar for something to drink. The live auction begins at 7 p.m. \n\n\n\nEvery bid supports the whole life of our church\, keeping MLUC’s doors open\, lights on\, and community thriving. \n\n\n\nHOW IT WORKS \n\n\n\n\nGet your bid number. You’ll need one for both the online and live auctions. Get your bid number. Only one bid number needed per household.\n\n\n\nStart bidding early. The online silent auction runs Nov. 7–14. The live auction begins at 7 p.m. on Nov. 14.\n\n\n\nBrowse the catalog. New wonders are being donated regularly. See what’s up for bid.\n\n\n\nHave something to give? The auction runs on your generosity. Offer an item or an experience. Donate an item or experience.\n\n\n\nBring the kids. A children’s party runs during the event\, so young adventurers get their own Wonderland. Children’s party details.\n\n\n\nCan’t make it down the rabbit hole? Bid by proxy. If you can’t attend in person\, you can still bid. Here’s how to place a proxy bid.\n\n\n\nQuestions? SUMMARY:Haugtussa Reclaimed
DESCRIPTION:Haugtussa Reclaimed is a dramatized musical retelling of Arne Garborg’s Haugtussa\, a clairvoyant young woman’s coming-of-age story\, with Edvard Grieg’s song cycle of the same name at its center. Haugtussa Reclaimed expands the truncated narrative of Grieg’s 8-song cycle—piecing together Garborg’s larger\, more empowered tale by adding thematically relevant works by Grieg—and serves as an even fuller showcase of Grieg’s nationalistic Romanticism. In venturing beyond the love story that comprises the bulk of Grieg’s setting\, Haugtussa Reclaimed rounds out the protagonist’s full supernatural journey as depicted in its source material while also strengthening her agency\, and attempts to rebuild Grieg’s Haugtussa as it might have been: a more theatrical experience that grapples with themes of good and evil\, finding oneself\, and the choices we make along the way.
