SUMMARY:Lecture Lunch
DESCRIPTION:This Month’s Speaker: Jay WileyLecture: My Life with My Stepfather\, the American Master Illustrator John Falter \n\n\n\nJohn Falter was a celebrated American illustrator whose career spanned the final years of the Golden Age of American Illustration. Commissioned by the Saturday Evening Post\, he produced 129 covers between 1943 and 1962—second only to Norman Rockwell in total output for the magazine. \n\n\n\nIn this presentation\, I’ll share a 1975 video interview and slides of covers that featured our family and the places we called home. \n\n\n\nBeyond the Post\, Falter created award-winning advertising campaigns for clients including Coca-Cola\, Pall Mall Cigarettes\, Hertz Car Rental\, and Johnson & Johnson. During World War II\, the U.S. Navy commissioned him to produce recruiting posters aimed at encouraging women to enlist in the WAVES. He also completed a yearlong commission for Esquire (1943–44)\, illustrating 12 historically significant moments of American valor in the war. \n\n\n\nI look forward to sharing stories and highlights from a rich and memorable time in all of our lives. \n\n\n\nAbout Lecture Lunch \n\n\n\nLecture Lunches are held on the second Wednesday each month from September through June. They feature a guest speaker drawn from the church or outside community. There is a $10 charge to cover food costs. A vegetarian option is available. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n CLICK HERE TO RSVP

SUMMARY:Reception for All-Church Read
DESCRIPTION:Author Richard McKnight\, PhD will introduce his book When We the People Lead\, The Leaders Will Follow — MLUC’s All-Church Read for Spring 2026. Join us during coffee hour for a reception in the Fireside Gallery. \n\n\n\n\nWhen We the People Lead\, the Leaders Will Follow is written for the moderate majority of Americans who feel demoralized and sidelined by our politics. Drawing on research and stories from communities across the country\, McKnight argues that most of us share common values — fairness\, freedom\, and a desire for a functioning democracy — and that small groups of ordinary citizens can spark real\, lasting change. Clear\, hopeful\, and practical\, it offers a path from exhaustion to renewal. \n\n\n\nCome meet the author\, pick up a copy\, and be part of the conversation. \n\n\n\nWhen We the People Lead\, the Leaders Will Follow is available for sale at:Main Point Books\, Wayne\, PANarberth Bookshop\, Narberth\, PABookshop.orgBarnes and NoblesAmazon

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: The Politics of Joy
DESCRIPTION:An Exhibition by Artists Susan Ragland and Nina Grier of Historical Dream \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEnjoy hors d’oeuvres\, wine\, and a chance to meet artists Susan Ragland and Nina Grier in person. Free and open to all. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition continues through May 10\, 2026 and is viewable on Sunday mornings and by appointment. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Susan Ragland \n\n\n\nSusan Ragland is a self-taught artist whose focus has been to unwaveringly create joyful images of Black people affirming their human connections. Amidst bursts of color and intricate designs\, her paintings seek to examine the humanity of Black subjects while paradoxically depicting the ordinary: African Americans as regular folk\, sans the presence of historical trauma. Her work aims to imbue majestic feelings in viewers who have experienced a questioning of their being and beckon others to identify universally-shared Joy. \n\n\n\nShe has had a 30-year career creating and selling art largely outside of the conventional art circuits. Through private exhibits and by word of mouth\, her art has found its way into the permanent acquisitions of major art collectors throughout the U.S. including the Colored Girls’ Museum; a long-time host of ABC’s The View; professional athletes; George Washington University\, Temple University; various on-air news pundits\, and in the homes of regular folks. \n\n\n\n(Bio courtesy of Philadelphia Mural Arts\, where Ragland was a 2024–2025 Black Artist Fellow.) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Nina Grier & Historical Dream \n\n\n\nAfter a successful career in the healthcare industry and a re-settlement to her native town of Philadelphia\, Nina Grier wanted to make a difference locally and nationally. In 2015\, she founded Historical Dream\, an entity designed to show an appreciation of diverse cultural leaders throughout history who’ve helped shape the country and the world’s shared progressive interests. \n\n\n\nHistorical Dream has distinguished itself by showcasing famous characters including Lucretia Mott\, Frederick Douglass\, and Harriet Tubman\, as well as lesser-known figures such as Wong Chin Foo\, who advocated for the rights of the Chinese during the 19th century\, and Chief Sitting Bull. \n\n\n\n“In our minds\, it’s like an emblematic olive branch that reaches across the past to bridge a present and future America\,” says Ms. Grier. \n\n\n\n(Bio courtesy of historicaldream.com)

SUMMARY:Right Relations Covenant Inquiry Meeting - Virtual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Zoom \n\n\n\nJoin us for an inquiry meeting as we begin creating MLUC’s first Right Relations Covenant—a shared\, aspirational promise that will shape how we live and engage together as a community. \n\n\n\nThis gathering is an opportunity to learn what a Right Relations Covenant is (and what it is not)\, why MLUC is developing one\, and how the process will unfold. We’ll explore how a covenant of shared aspirations can serve as a foundation for future processes and practices that support healthy relationships within the congregation. \n\n\n\nParticipants are invited to ask questions\, share reflections\, and offer input as we begin this collaborative work together. \n\n\n\nAll are welcome. No prior experience or preparation is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to listen and engage. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDiscussion Questions \n\n\n\nDuring this session we will discuss the following: \n\n\n\n\nOur mission statement is “We transform lives through love\, service\, and our welcoming faith.” What behaviors do you see regularly that fulfill this mission?\n\n\n\nConsidering the principles and UUA shared values that unite us as a congregation\, how do you see this in practice at MLUC?\n\n\n\nOur shared values say\, “Love is at the center of everything we do.” Especially when we don’t see eye-to-eye\, and wish to move forward and resolve conflict\, what does this look like?\n\n\n\nMany congregations create a covenant and then it becomes a document forgotten in a file or a framed statement on a wall that no one looks at. What could we do to make sure our covenant becomes a guiding and transformative force at MLUC? Be specific.
