Families,

 

This year, consider making the MLUC All-Church Potluck on 2nd Saturdays one of your family meals.

 

Since 2003, Columbia University National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) has found connections between the health of family relationships and the frequency of family meals. Teens whose families had mealtimes together reported they are more likely to seek parental support & confide in either or both parents. Teens who dined more frequently with their family reported less stress than teens who had two or less weekly family meals. Teens who dined 5-7 times per week were twice as likely to receive ‘A’s in school and less likely to use tobacco, marijuana, and alcohol (CASA 2003-2012).

 

Lets make family mealtime a regular practice at MLUC.

Looking Back with Gratitude, Looking Forward with Hope

Let's get together for an evening of fine fellowship, fabulous food, and fantastic fun with a potluck dinner and an MLUC variety show! All ages are welcome; childcare is available upon request. Guests may bring wine, beer or non-alcoholic drinks to share (drop off at the bar) during cocktail hour; lemonade and soft drinks will be available.

Conscious Aging
Facilitated by Eileen Casaccio, PsyD
Conscious Aging is an emotional wellness program designed to offer seniors hope and meaning to better cope with the stresses of aging, and to harvest the opportunities of aging to grow in wisdom, depth, and creativity. This is a research-based, time-tested 8-week workshop with a conversational café style where everyone can speak. Topics include forgiveness, self-compassion, surrender, life review, and creating new visions for aging from one’s own subjective experiences.

Each participant will purchase the $15 workbook provided at the first class. You MUST register in advance to ensure there are enough workbooks for all participants!

The class will be held in the Fireside Room from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, beginning October 17 and ending December 12. We'll skip the second Wednesday of each month so as not to interfere with the Lecture Luncheons.
